Zero Waste Europe (ZWE) is organising its first Study Tour in three years. This time we will be returning to Italy, which is the birthplace of the European zero waste movement.
Visit two of Europe’s front-running schemes for sustainable management of waste: the city of Milan and the Treviso region. They are home to the waste management company Contarina, a long-time zero waste champion. Contarina is responsible for 49 municipalities covering 554,000 inhabitants.
During this study tour, you’ll discover innovative and world-leading waste management and prevention projects. Milan currently implements a 65% separate collection system in a city totalling 1.4 million inhabitants, with an extra 600,000 daily commuters. Whilst the waste management company Contarina achieves a recycling rates of 85% whilst producing just 58kgs of residual waste per capita.
