We are launching our Autumn 2024 Zero Waste Cities Certification Mentors and Auditors Training Program!
Why a Zero Waste Cities Certification?
Built on Zero Waste Europe’s established zero waste methodology, our certifications are designed to:
- Help municipalities and businesses to comply (and go beyond) with EU and national regulations
- Promote the implementation of efficient systems which save natural and economic resources
- Reinforce the positive image of the municipality/organisation, which will gain worldwide recognition and credibility, creating new jobs and attracting economic incentives, funding, and prestigious event-hosting opportunities
Why become an accredited Mentor?
MiZA-accredited Mentors act as trusted advisors and consultants, guiding and supporting cities and organizations toward their transition to zero waste. They are key in guiding any candidate towards achieving the certification.
Mentors are the only accredited consultants authorized to deliver Mission Zero Academy Zero Waste Cities Certification.
Their role as advisors to cities includes (but is not limited to):
- Defining the zero waste strategy.
- Assessing key actions.
- Identifying best practices and stakeholders.
- Evaluating different solutions.
- Creating communication materials.
- Training their staff on what zero waste means.
The Zero Waste Cities Certification Mentors/Auditors Training Program
Our program is an interactive online course, where the majority of the course is based on the learner’s proactive individual work.
Every two (2) weeks, a 2 hour live session is held (attendance is mandatory) to allow for discussion and reflection with the trainer and fellow learners.
Although we may like just reading documents and listening to lectures, educational science says there are more effective ways to learn. Our training philosophy is based on the principles described in the “Main principles of teaching” chapter in the Zero Waste training Handbook.
Our curriculum consists of 14 Modules spread over 13 weeks. The training is divided between independent, self-paced study and live sessions. The learner should commit between 1-3 hours of independent study per module.
Learners must submit assignments to advance in the course. Assignments related to live sessions shall be submitted 24 hours ahead of the session. Failure to submit will block the learner’s access to the next live session.
Course Prerequiste
- The learner should possess a Zero Waste Ambassador-level understanding of Zero Waste, including the Zero Waste hierarchy, the concept of a Zero Waste City, basics of communication, and the importance of data.
